Anna Rocks her Cupped Corset

“Julia was such pleasure to work with from start to finish. She took time to understand what I wanted and worked really hard to create it for me…

She wanted it to be perfect and thanks to her - it was! I was so grateful to have her to work with, she made the process a really enjoyable experience, I really looked forward to our fitting appointments. She really is a master of her craft! She was patient with me and gave great advice.

Her skirt has pockets!

Anna first contacted me back in the “before times” - 2019 - when she was planning her wedding for the first time. She had a skirt already, but wanted a bespoke corset to go with it.

Then the pandemic happened. In between each lockdown, her wedding plans were resumed, and dashed again - several times.

During the pandemic I myself moved house, and started following a lot of Interiors Accounts on Instagram. One day, one of my favourite accounts posted a question - Was there someone out there who could make a top for her wedding?! I immediately responded and we realised we had already been in touch before.

It was fate!

Roll forward to 2023, and 4th time lucky won the day! As Anna lives in Oxford and doesn’t drive, we were able to work around her busy schedule and do the fittings at her home which was an absolute delight - and a bit strange because I was already quite well acquainted with her home before I set foot inside it!

Anna wanted a look inspired by the Golden Age of Coutre - simple, understated elegance. A look I’m fully on board with! She said

When wedding dress shopping I struggled to find something I liked. I kept leaning towards corset style dresses but they all fitted really poorly, and you could tell they were a poor (although not cheap!) imitation of the real thing.”

Cupped corsets require more fittings than regular corsets, and I think we did 3 or 4 fittings for Anna, always trying different variances of the same theme to get the shape and fit exactly right.

We were able to find an almost identcial colour match for the skirt she already had, and the corset was finally made in a beautiful light ivory silk satin.

I lined the corset with a vintage brocade coutil, and added blue ribbons to cover the cup seams. Anna now had “Something Old, Something New, and Something Blue” for her wedding ensemble.

On the day I delivered Anna’s finished corset (always sad and happy at the same time!), we made a detailed video of me lacing her into the corset, for her attendants so that they would know exactly how to lace her up on the day.

I think they did a splendid job!

I got the real thing, and custom made for a similar price as what I was looking at on the bridal shops.””

Anna tells me they had the most perfect day, worth the wait in every way!
